Description
“AT TEMPLESTOWE”, also known as “The Road to Templestowe” was painted by Australian artist Sir Arthur Streeton in 1889. This oil on canvas is in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA). It shows a horse drawn cart unloading hay, with a little girl following, on a country dirt road surrounded by sunburnt paddocks. It’s a common rural scene in 1889 on the road to Templestowe/Doncaster, which is now a heavily populated north eastern suburb of busy Melbourne, Victoria.
